We Welcome The 2008 Rolex Scholars

For the past three years, Blue Eye FX Productions has been one of the first steps for the candidates in the prestigious Our World Underwater Scholarship Society - Rolex Scholarship. Our role has been teaching the scholars the complete A-Z of production: from their introduction to a video camera and scripting, to editing and complete post-production. The culmination of the twelve-month scholarship sees the scholars produce a twenty-minute documentary premiered at the Explorers’ Club in New York.
In 2008 Jamie Brisbin from the USA and Steve Lindfield from Australia landed on our doorstep in Sharm el Sheikh and we immediately dispatched them for a safari disembarking from Dahab! The boys spent six days aboard the Sea Queen vessel on a shoot with Paul Willetts in and around the southern Red Sea dive sites. Camera work, composition and maintaining a story line were key elements in the filming training for the scholars. Each Rolex Scholarship provides the scholars with a hands-on introduction to underwater and other aquatic-related endeavours for a young person considering a career in an underwater-related discipline. Each scholar spends approximately one year working side-by-side with current leaders in underwater fields. The range of experiences may include active participation in field studies, underwater research, scientific expeditions, laboratory assignments, equipment testing and design, photographic instruction and other specialised assignments.
